[이솝우화] 도적과 신탁 🏦 THE ROGUE AND THE ORACLE 🏦ならず者と神託（オラクル）

한 도적이 델포이의 신탁(오라클)이 거짓된 답을 한다는 것을 증명하겠다고 내기했다. 
그는 소매 속에 작은 새를 숨긴 채 약속된 날 신전으로 가서, 신탁에게 자신이 손에 쥐고 있는 것이 살아 있느냐 죽어 있느냐고 물었다. 
만일 신탁이 “죽었다”라고 하면 그는 새를 살아있게 내보낼 것이고, 만일 신탁이 “살아 있다”라고 하면 그는 그 새의 목을 비틀어 죽은 것으로 보이게 할 참이었다. 
그러나 오라클은 그보다 한 수 위였다. 
그가 들은 답은 이러했다.
“낯선 이여, 네 손에 쥐고 있는 것이 살아 있느냐 죽어 있느냐 하는 문제는 전적으로 네 뜻에 달려 있네.”

💡교훈:
결과는 남이 아니라 너의 선택과 행동에 달려 있다.

THE ROGUE AND THE ORACLE

A Rogue laid a wager that he would prove the Oracle at Delphi to be untrustworthy by procuring from it a false reply to an inquiry by himself. 

So he went to the temple on the appointed day with a small bird in his hand, which he concealed under the folds of his cloak, and asked whether what he held in his hand were alive or dead. 

If the Oracle said 

"dead," 

he meant to produce the bird alive: if the reply was "alive," he intended to wring its neck and show it to be dead. 

But the Oracle was one too many for him, for the answer he got was this:
"Stranger, whether the thing that you hold in your hand be alive or dead is a matter that depends entirely on your own will."

あるならず者が、デルフォイの神託をだまして誤った返答をさせられるかどうか賭けをした。
彼は小さな鳥を外套の内に隠して定められた日に神殿へ行き、「私の手に持っているものは生きているか、死んでいるか」と問いかけた。
もし神託が「死んでいる」と言えば彼はその鳥を生きていると示すつもりであり、もし「生きている」と答えれば彼は首を絞めて死んでいるように見せかけるつもりだった。
しかしオラクルの答えは一枚上手だった。
彼が聞いたのはこういう返答だった：
「旅の者よ、あなたの手にあるものが生きているか死んでいるかは、全くあなた自身の意志次第である。」

結果は他人ではなく、あなたの選択と行動にかかっている。
