[이솝우화] 나귀와 그 주인 🫏 THE ASS AND HIS PURCHASER 🫏 ロバとその買い手

 

어느 날, 한 사람이 나귀를 사려고 시장에 갔다.
그는 마음에 드는 나귀를 발견하고, 주인에게 시험삼아 집에 데려가 볼 수 있냐고 부탁했다.

집에 도착하자 그는 새로 데려온 나귀를 외양간에 다른 나귀들과 함께 두었다.
그런데 그 나귀는 주위를 한 번 둘러보더니, 즉시 가장 게으르고 탐욕스러운 나귀 옆에 자리를 잡았다.

이 모습을 본 주인은 곧바로 굴레를 씌우고 그 나귀를 다시 원래 주인에게 돌려보냈다.
원래 주인은 놀라며 물었다.
“아니, 벌써 시험을 끝낸 겁니까?”
그러자 그가 대답했다.
“더 볼 것도 없습니다. 누구와 어울리는지를 보면 그 나귀가 어떤 녀석인지 알 수 있지요.”

📝 교훈: 
사람은 누구와 어울리느냐로 그 사람됨이 드러난다.

THE ASS AND HIS PURCHASER

A Man who wanted to buy an Ass went to market, and, coming across a likely-looking beast, arranged with the owner that he should be allowed to take him home on trial to see what he was like. 

When he reached home, he put him into his stable along with the other asses.
The newcomer took a look round, and immediately went and chose a place next to the laziest and greediest beast in the stable. 

When the master saw this he put a halter on him at once, and led him off and handed him over to his owner again. 

The latter was a good deal surprised to see him back so soon, and said, 

"Why, do you mean to say you have tested him already?" 

"I don't want to put him through any more tests,"
replied the other: 

"I could see what sort of beast he is from the companion he chose for himself."

    A man is known by the company he keeps.

🫏 ロバとその買い手

ある男がロバを買いたくて市場へ行った。
気に入ったロバを見つけ、その持ち主に試しに家へ連れて帰らせてほしいと頼んだ。

家に着くと、新しいロバをほかのロバたちと一緒に小屋へ入れた。
するとそのロバは周りを見回し、すぐに一番怠け者で欲張りなロバの隣に座った。

これを見た男はすぐに手綱をつけ、そのロバを元の持ち主のところへ連れて行った。
持ち主は驚いて言った。
「えっ、もう試したのですか？」
すると男は答えた。
「もう十分です。どんな仲間を選ぶかを見れば、そのロバがどんな奴か分かりますよ。」

人は付き合う仲間によって、その本性が明らかになる。
