공작이 학을 비웃으며 말했다.
“내 화려한 깃털을 봐, 내 색깔이 얼마나 아름다운지 봐! 너의 깃털은 왜 그렇게 평범하니?”
학이 대답했다.
“맞아, 너의 깃털이 훨씬 화려한 건 인정해. 하지만 나는 하늘로 높이 날아오를 수 있지만, 너는 땅에 붙어 있는 닭에 불과하지.”
THE PEACOCK AND THE CRANE
A Peacock taunted a Crane with the dullness of her plumage.
"Look at my brilliant colours," said she, "and see how much finer they are than your poor feathers."
"I am not denying," replied the Crane,
"that yours are far gayer than mine; but when it comes to flying I can soar into the clouds, whereas you are confined to the earth like any dunghill cock."
