[이솝우화] 독수리와 여우 🦅 THE EAGLE AND THE FOX 🦅 ワシとキツネ

 

독수리와 여우가 큰 친구가 되어, 서로 가까이 살기로 했다.
“서로 자주 보면 우정이 더 깊어질 거야.”
그래서 독수리는 높은 나무 꼭대기에 둥지를 짓고,
여우는 그 나무 밑 덤불 속에 굴을 파고 새끼를 낳았다.

어느 날, 여우가 먹이를 찾으러 떠난 사이,
먹이가 없던 독수리가 내려와 여우의 새끼들을 낚아채
자신의 새끼들에게 먹이로 주었다.
돌아온 여우는 새끼를 잃은 슬픔보다
높은 나무 위의 독수리에게 복수할 수 없다는 분노로 불탔다.

그래서 멀리서 저주를 퍼부으며 이를 갈았다.
그러던 어느 날, 근처 마을 사람들이 제사를 지내며 염소를 태우던 중
독수리가 그 불붙은 고기를 낚아채 둥지로 가져갔다.
그러자 바람에 불이 옮겨 붙어 둥지가 타올랐고,
새끼 독수리들은 반쯤 구워진 채 땅으로 떨어졌다.
여우는 달려가 독수리 눈앞에서 그 새끼들을 모두 먹어치웠다.

💡교훈:
거짓된 믿음은 인간의 벌은 피할 수 있어도, 신의 벌은 피할 수 없다.

THE EAGLE AND THE FOX

An Eagle and a Fox became great friends and determined to live near one another: they thought that the more they saw of each other the better friends they would be. 

So the Eagle built a nest at the top of a high tree, while the Fox settled in a thicket at the foot of it and
produced a litter of cubs. 

One day the Fox went out foraging for food, and the Eagle, who also wanted food for her young, flew down into the
thicket, caught up the Fox's cubs, and carried them up into the tree for a meal for herself and her family. 

When the Fox came back, and found out what had happened, she was not so much sorry for the loss of her cubs as furious because she couldn't get at the Eagle and pay her out for her treachery. 

So she sat down not far off and cursed her.

But it wasn't long before she had her revenge.

Some villagers happened to be sacrificing a goat on a neighbouring altar, and the Eagle flew down and carried off a piece of burning flesh to her nest. 

There was a strong wind blowing, and the nest caught fire, with the result that her fledglings fell half-roasted to the ground. 

Then the Fox ran to the spot and devoured them in full sight of the Eagle.

    False faith may escape human punishment, but cannot escape the
    divine.

🦅 ワシとキツネ

ワシとキツネは親しい友になり、近くに住むことにした。
「もっと頻繁に会えば、友情も深まるだろう」と考えたのだ。
ワシは高い木の上に巣を作り、キツネはその根元の茂みに子どもを産んだ。

ある日、キツネが餌を探しに出かけると、
空腹だったワシが降りてきて、キツネの子どもをさらい、
自分のヒナに食べさせてしまった。

帰ってきたキツネは悲しみよりも、
高いところにいるワシに復讐できない怒りで震えた。
彼女は近くに座り、呪いの言葉を吐き続けた。

しかしやがて復讐の時が来た。
村人たちがヤギをいけにえにして火を焚いていたところ、
ワシが燃える肉をくわえて巣に持ち帰った。
すると強風に煽られ、巣が燃え上がり、
ワシのヒナたちは半焼けのまま地面に落ちた。
キツネは走り寄り、ワシの目の前でそのヒナたちを食べた。

💡教訓：
偽りの友情や信頼は、人の罰を逃れても、神の罰からは逃れられない。
