[이솝우화] 당나귀와 노새 🐴 THE ASS AND THE MULE 🐴 ロバとラバ

 

어느 날 한 남자가 당나귀와 노새를 데리고 길을 떠나며 짐을 싣고 여행을 하였다. 
길이 평평할 때는 당나귀도 잘 걸어갔지만, 곧 험하고 가파른 언덕길에 이르자 당나귀는 지쳐 더 이상 버티기 힘들었다. 
그래서 그는 노새에게 짐을 조금만 덜어 달라고 부탁했지만, 노새는 거절했다. 
결국 당나귀는 기진맥진하여 비탈길에서 넘어져 죽고 말았다. 
주인은 절망했지만 어쩔 수 없이 당나귀의 짐을 모두 노새에게 싣고, 심지어 당나귀의 가죽까지 벗겨 노새의 짐 위에 올렸다. 
무거운 짐에 허덕이며 걷던 노새는 스스로 중얼거렸다.
“처음에 당나귀를 도와주었다면, 지금 이렇게 그의 짐과 가죽까지 지고 있지는 않았을 텐데.”

📌교훈: 
어려울 때 돕지 않으면, 결국 더 큰 짐을 떠안게 될 수 있다.

THE ASS AND THE MULE

A certain man who had an Ass and a Mule loaded them both up one day and set out upon a journey. 

So long as the road was fairly level, the Ass got on very well: but by and by they came to a place among the
hills where the road was very rough and steep, and the Ass was at his last gasp. 

So he begged the Mule to relieve him of a part of his load: but the Mule refused. At last, from sheer weariness, the Ass stumbled and fell down a steep place and was killed. 

The driver was in despair, but he did the best he could: he added the Ass's load to the Mule's, and he also flayed the Ass and put his skin on the top of the double load. 

The Mule could only just manage the extra weight, and, as he staggered painfully along, he said to himself, 

"I have only got what I deserved: if I had been willing to help the Ass at first, I should not now be carrying his load and his skin into the bargain."

🐴 ロバとラバ

ある日、ある男がロバとラバに荷物を積んで旅に出た。
道が平らなうちはロバも元気に歩けたが、やがて険しく急な坂道に差しかかると、ロバは疲れ果ててしまった。
そこでロバはラバに荷物を少し分けてほしいと頼んだが、ラバは断った。
結局、ロバは力尽きて坂で倒れ、そのまま死んでしまった。
主人は嘆いたが、仕方なくロバの荷物をすべてラバに積み、さらにロバの皮まで剥いで荷物の上に載せた。
重さに苦しみながら歩くラバは心の中でつぶやいた。
「最初にロバを助けていれば、今こうして彼の荷物と皮まで背負うことはなかったのに。」

📌教訓:
困っている時に助けなければ、結局自分がより大きな負担を背負うことになる。
