[이솝우화] 당나귀, 수탉, 그리고 사자 🐴🦁 THE ASS, THE COCK, AND THE LION 🐴🦁 ロバ、コック、ライオン

 

당나귀와 수탉이 우리 안에 함께 있었습니다.
며칠 동안 굶주린 사자가 나타나 당나귀를 잡아먹으려는 순간,
수탉이 몸을 곧추세우고 날개를 퍼덕이며 크게 울었습니다.

사자는 수탉의 울음소리를 무서워하기 때문에, 그 소리를 듣자마자 도망쳤습니다.
당나귀는 크게 기뻐하며 생각했습니다.
‘사자가 수탉도 못 대적하는데, 하물며 나를 어찌 감히 당하겠는가!’

그래서 당나귀는 사자를 쫓아갔습니다.
그러나 닭이 보이지 않는 곳까지 오자, 사자는 갑자기 몸을 돌려 당나귀를 덮쳐 잡아먹었습니다.

📌 교훈:
잘못된 자신감은 오히려 파멸을 부른다.

THE ASS, THE COCK, AND THE LION

An Ass and a Cock were in a cattle-pen together. Presently a Lion, who had been starving for days, came along and was just about to fall upon the Ass and make a meal of him when the Cock, rising to his full height and flapping his wings vigorously, uttered a tremendous crow.
Now, if there is one thing that frightens a Lion, it is the crowing of a Cock: and this one had no sooner heard the noise than he fled.
The Ass was mightily elated at this, and thought that, if the Lion couldn't face a Cock, he would be still less likely to stand up to an Ass: so he ran out and pursued him. 

But when the two had got well out of sight and hearing of the Cock, the Lion suddenly turned upon the
Ass and ate him up.

    False confidence often leads to disaster.

🐴🦁 ロバ、コック、ライオン

ロバとニワトリが一緒に囲いの中にいました。
何日も飢えていたライオンが現れ、ロバに襲いかかろうとしたその時、
ニワトリが体を伸ばし、羽を大きくはばたかせて、大声で鳴きました。

ライオンはニワトリの鳴き声を恐れるため、その声を聞くやいなや逃げ去りました。
ロバは大いに得意になり、こう考えました。
「ライオンがニワトリすら恐れるなら、なおさらロバの私には立ち向かえまい！」

そこでロバはライオンを追いかけました。
しかし、ニワトリの声が届かないところに来ると、ライオンは急に振り返り、ロバを食べてしまいました。

📌 教訓: 
誤った自信は破滅を招く。
