[이솝우화] 농부와 사과나무 🍏 HE PEASANT AND THE APPLE-TREE 🍏 農夫とリンゴの木

 

어느 날, 한 농부의 정원에 사과나무가 자라고 있었지만, 이 나무는 열매를 맺지 않고 단지 참새와 메뚜기들이 가지에 앉아 더위를 피하는 그늘만 제공하고 있었습니다. 
농부는 나무가 열매를 맺지 않는 것에 실망하여 그것을 베어버리기로 결심하고 도끼를 가져왔습니다.

그런데 참새들과 메뚜기들이 농부가 하려는 일을 보고는 간청했습니다.
“제발 이 나무를 베지 말아주세요! 우리가 다른 곳으로 가야 하고, 당신도 더 이상 우리의 즐거운 지저귐을 들으며 정원 일을 할 수 없게 될 거예요.”

하지만 농부는 그들의 말을 듣지 않고 도끼질을 시작했습니다. 
몇 번 내려치자 나무 속이 텅 비어 있고, 그 안에 벌떼와 많은 꿀이 들어 있다는 것을 발견했습니다. 
농부는 기뻐하며 도끼를 내려놓고 말했습니다.
“이 오래된 나무는 역시 간직할 가치가 있구나!”

🌱 교훈: 
많은 사람들은 쓸모를 가치의 기준으로 삼는다.

 

THE PEASANT AND THE APPLE-TREE

A Peasant had an Apple-tree growing in his garden, which bore no fruit, but merely served to provide a shelter from the heat for the sparrows and grasshoppers which sat and chirped in its branches.
Disappointed at its barrenness he determined to cut it down, and went and fetched his axe for the purpose. 

But when the sparrows and the grasshoppers saw what he was about to do, they begged him to spare it,

and said to him, 

"If you destroy the tree we shall have to seek shelter elsewhere, and you will no longer have our merry chirping to enliven your work in the garden." 

 

He, however, refused to listen to them, and set to work with a will to cut through the trunk. 

A few strokes showed that it was hollow inside and contained a swarm of bees and a large store of honey. 

 

Delighted with his find he threw down his axe, saying,

"The old tree is worth keeping after all."

    Utility is most men's test of worth.

農夫とリンゴの木 🍏

ある日、一人の農夫の庭にリンゴの木が育っていました。
しかしその木は実を結ばず、ただスズメやバッタたちが枝に座って日陰で涼むだけでした。
農夫は実がならないことに失望し、その木を切り倒すことを決め、斧を持ってきました。

それを見たスズメやバッタたちは懇願しました。
「どうかこの木を切らないでください！ 私たちは他の場所に行かなくてはならなくなるし、あなたももう私たちの楽しいさえずりを聞きながら庭仕事ができなくなります。」

しかし農夫は彼らの言うことを聞かず、斧を振り始めました。
数回打つと、木の中が空洞で、そこにミツバチの群れとたくさんの蜂蜜があることに気づきました。
農夫は大喜びして斧を投げ捨て、こう言いました。
「この古い木はやっぱり残す価値があるな！」

🌱 教訓: 
多くの人は役に立つかどうかで価値を判断する。
